November 25, 2005, Newsletter Issue #8: Are All Your Costs Covered?

Tip of the Week

Sometimes your doctor will tell you a certain medical treatment is necessary to maintain your good health. But just because you need the treatment doesn’t mean it will automatically be covered by your health plan. Here’s what to do to avoid a surprise when you get your hospital bill:

Understand your coverage before your doctor’s visit. In some cases, you will have to get permission from your insurance company before certain treatments in order to get them paid for.

Call your company and have any of your questions about your plan explained.

Always keep in mind that your doctor isn’t responsible for knowing or deciding what’s going to be covered and what isn’t.
