October 14, 2005, Newsletter Issue #2: ER Visits Can Cost You

Tip of the Week

Emergency Rooms are crowded, and not just by people needing emergency care! Today more and more Americans are heading to the ER for everything from sore throats to stuffy noses - routine treatements that should be handled by personal doctors. And it can cost you: depending on your health insurance plan, you may be reimbursed less or not at all for your ER care. Plus, ER visits are more expensive overall: where a normal doctor`s visit can cost you less than $70, getting the same treatment at the ER can cost over $350! Going to the ER for non-emergencies takes up valuable hospital time and resources, and is just another reason why health care costs are on the up. To save money on your medical care, make an appointment with your personal doctor for non-urgent treatment, and only go to the ER when you have a medical emergency!
