November 18, 2005, Newsletter Issue #7: Save On Your Hospital Visit

Tip of the Week

Do you know how much you’re paying for that box of tissues? When you stay at the hospital, you’re responsible for the items and services that aren’t covered by your health insurance plan. Most people know that some services are excluded from their plan, but don’t think about the smaller details - and then they get a nasty surprise when the bill comes. Typically many insurance plans won’t cover “convenience and comfort” items, such as boxes of tissues, band-aids, television service, cough syrup, an extra pillow, etc. Read through your entire health insurance plan to make sure you catch every exclusion. Think ahead: Before your next hospital stay, pack your own comfort kit. Try to include everything you think you might need, so you can avoid paying the inflated hospital fees.
